Texas Tech Student Arrested After Mocking Charlie Kirk Supporters During Campus Protest

LUBBOCK, Texas — An 18-year-old Texas Tech student was detained Friday after clashing with supporters of slain conservative commentator Charlie Kirk during a campus protest.

In a viral video circulating online, freshman Camryn Booker is seen approaching a group of men holding signs in remembrance of Kirk, who was assassinated last week. Booker laughed as she mocked their demonstration, reportedly saying, “F— y’all homie dead, he got shot in the head.”

The confrontation escalated when Booker accused Kirk of being racist, telling protesters he “got what he deserved.” Supporters then described her as “aggressive.” Booker, however, pushed back on that characterization: “I’m not being aggressive. My voice is very calm. You’re calling me aggressive because I’m a Black woman,” she said.

Campus police later arrested Booker, charging her with battery, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault, according to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office. She was released on a $200 bond.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott weighed in on the incident, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “This is what happened to the person who was mocking Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Texas Tech. FAFO.”

The arrest has already sparked heated debate online, with some calling it an example of racial bias in policing, while others argue Booker crossed the line by celebrating Kirk’s death.
