Utah Man Arrested in Connection with Charlie Kirk Assassination

September 12, 2025 — Authorities have confirmed that 22-year-old Utah resident Tyler Robinson is in custody for the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

According to the FBI, Robinson’s own family recognized him from surveillance images released to the public. His father — a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department — confronted Robinson after he confessed to the crime. With the assistance of a local minister, Robinson’s father persuaded him to surrender and then contacted federal authorities to arrange the arrest.

Robinson was taken into custody in St. George, Utah, roughly 250 miles from the university campus where Kirk was fatally shot during a debate.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said the state intends to pursue the death penalty, describing the assassination as “one of the most high-profile cases Utah has faced in decades.”
